Gravity
“Hey, Miss At! I was reading a book about anti-gravity, and I just couldn’t put it down!”
“Hey, Miss At… My sister says I don’t have any upper body strength. Teeeeeeechnically that’s not true.”
“You know what really sucks? When you get caught in a tornado. Yeah, you spin so fast you suffocate.”
Student: Hey, Miss At, if you put on too much deodorant and it smells really strong, will it harm or burn your lungs? Like, will you not be able to breathe right anymore?
Me: What? I don’t think a deodorant stick can do that.
Class: How did you even think of that question, A_________?
Student: I dunno. I was just thinking about my lungs.
A third grader did a magic trick where he pulled about 30 toothbrushes out of his hat and chucked them at the audience.
It was the best act of the night.
As a teacher who has had young students who struggle with self-injury, I will gladly wear orange today.
Did you?
foreverxmegg asked
Done and done! I don’t teach on Fridays, but I’ll be around the school and out and about to don my orange :]
Congrats on almost being done with your studies!
Also, any other teachers and students out there willing to wear orange tomorrow?
There’s one high schooler in particular that makes me look like this for the entire hour I teach him everyday…

We’re just finishing up on our sex education unit. Here’s a question I asked them to write about and a few responses…
What did you learn about sexually transmitted diseases in this lesson?
“I learned that STDs are extremely important and you should do your best trying not to get one.”
“I learned that it is good to be abstinence. I learned you can die from HIVs. The final thing is that Genital herpes are for guys and girls.”
“I should stay away from STDs.”
“I learned that you can’t really trust anybody. Even your spouse can be infected.”
“That sex is a harmful thing.”
Edit: Just so we all know… YES. I did clarify with the student that sex is not harmful. Obviously as a teacher I wouldn’t let that slip by without talking to the student(s).
I told a student he wouldn’t be receiving his points for the day because he came to class without any of his work (my high school computer class is based on them completing a packet in class…no packet, no way to work in the class). His response…
“ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? Just cause I left my backpack with all my school stuff at home, now I’m not getting credit for English, Math, Bio OR this class?!”

Agh!! Yes, I am changing my last name, but as for my url….this is a good question that I don’t have an answer to yet.
Suggestions if I should or shouldn’t?
Edit: I am for SURE changing my last name because I very much would like to. However, I don’t know if “Hey, Miss At…” will stay as the blog title since students will no longer be saying it. That’s where my question of changing my URL lies.
